Scuba Z was a dance/breakbeat-inspired project created by an Edinburgh musician named Mike Hall, who also goes by the interesting nickname of "Johnson Wax." He'd been the keyboardist for an alternative rock band called The Lost Soul Band in the '90s, which broke up after three albums, mostly over the band's lack of mainstream success.
From the Scotland Herald: "Mike Hall moved into more dance-based fare with Scuba Z and The Leisure Assistants, and had music featured on the soundtrack of the feature film Red Road." (As this article is from 2008, HyperNormalisation hadn't come out yet.)"

後半に出てくる『Red Road』は2006年の映画で、カンヌ国際映画祭で審査員賞を獲得しています。『HyperNormalisation』は2016年のBBCドキュメンタリーで、これらの作品にはScubaZの「The Vanishing American Family」がサウンドトラックとして使用されています。

"The other writer/performer on this album is a guy called Brian Anger, real name: Nick Cook. He hasn't done much musically besides his work on The Vanishing American Family. Just a few years ago he collaborated with a young Swedish trance artist, Quickdrop, to help write his single "Wings." But that's all I'm seeing for Nick.
These guys must like using aliases, because in addition to their individual nicknames and the group's name, Scuba Z, the duo is credited as The Plastic Men on this album (also appears in the song title "This is the Plastic Men"). Vanishing American Family was the only album they ever released. It was mixed and mastered by Tim Debney and Nick Kinloch. On a couple tracks (not including the titular track) a chick named Moira Ugoji supplies vocals. But, that's it as far as the personnel. The project Scuba Z seemed to be just that - a one-time project, an experiment, a foray into the world of "dance" music for principal songwriter Mike Hall.

"Funny side note: The fact that this was a self-released album is pretty obvious, as no other (public) recordings exist under the label "Odd Records, Ltd.," and "Odd Studios" doesn't seem to be a real studio that I can tell. There isn't any website for this place... because it doesn't exist. It's a very common industry practice for an artist who self-releases an album to make up a random, imaginary name for a record label or studio to put in the liner notes (because "Mum's Basement" isn't badass enough).
To conclude, I bet that these guys are quite pleased with their recent surge in popularity (not to mention bank accounts) after all these years of near-total obscurity. Let's hope Curtis compensated them fairly and they are cashing in on the royalties. I wonder what they think of Curtis' documentaries, or if they even care that this is the most popular song on the HyperNormalisation soundtrack."
